re-new

at Wasserman Projects (Detroit) / Saturday, August 16, 2025

———

Pianist Justin Snyder presents “re-new” – a solo performance curated in conversation with Wasserman Projects’ tenth anniversary exhibition TINNED, featuring Pierre-Yves Macé’s evening-length work Song Recycle and music by Talib Rasul Hakim.

Composed for piano and electronics, Song Recycle is a haunting song cycle that radically reconstructs fragments of anonymous singing voices gathered from the internet. Leaving behind ghostly traces—at times unrecognizable from their origins—this duet between past and present retains the vulnerability of the human voice and the markers of place and time. The pairing of this work with the exhibition reflects a decade-long evolution of a vision, casting familiar expressions in a new light shaped by memory and experience.
