dreaming with eyes open

at Wasserman Projects (Detroit) / April 10, 2025

———

A solo concert in response to works by artists Gerhardt Knodel and Roberto Benavidez currently featured in their respective exhibitions Imagined Futures and Abstract Piñatas.

Following the marionette characters dreamt up by Gerhardt Knodel, the concert program serves as a sonic map, propelling their journey forward as the theater of life unfolds before them. The music of Ann Southam weaves them through a landscape of dazzling, swirling colors, while the sounds of Ruo Huang (composed for piano, police whistle, and tuned beer bottles) amplify their dramatic flair for adventure. Through ancient rhythms, the music of Evan Ziporyn and Slamet Abdul Sjukur connects the characters to a deeper history, guiding them toward a glimmering future built upon all experience.
